WARLORD COLOSSUS SERIES
The series was admittedly formulaic either Spider-Man or that issue's guest-star would encounter a menace and then by sheer chance cross paths with another hero who would lend a hand. The spirit of Marvel Team-Up was carried on by Avenging Spider-Man and later by Superior Spider-Man Team-Up.Ĭomics journalist Jonathan Miller summarized Marvel Team-Up in a retrospective article: This volume often reintroduced lesser-known Marvel characters that had fallen into obscurity. The third Marvel Team-Up series, written by Robert Kirkman, began publication in January 2005 and frequently featured Spider-Man. From 1995 to 1997, a quarterly series titled Spider-Man Team-Up fulfilled much the same purpose as the original title. The second series was published for 11 issues from September 1997 through July 1998 and originally featured Spider-Man Namor the Sub-Mariner was the featured character starting with #8. When cancelled with #150 in 1985, the title was replaced by Web of Spider-Man. Publication of most of the issues starring the Human Torch coincided with that of Giant-Size Spider-Man, an alternate Spider-Man "team-up"-themed series by the regular Marvel Team-Up creative team. Of the issues that did not star Spider-Man, the Human Torch headlines six issues (#18, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35) the Hulk, four (#97, 104, 105, and Annual #3) and Aunt May, one (#137). It was the first major ongoing spin-off series for Spider-Man, being preceded only by the short-lived The Spectacular Spider-Man magazine.

The series was originally published from March 1972 through February 1985, and featured Spider-Man as the lead " team-up" character in all but ten of its 150 issues, and in six of its seven Annuals. The series featured two or more Marvel characters in one story. The increases To Hit ensure that even inherently-tough units with low figure-counts, like Dragon Turtles and Minotaurs, become a lot more dangerous.Marvel Team-Up is an American comic book series published by Marvel Comics. Units with lots of figures and low base scores, such as Bowmen, Spearmen, and Slingers, will achieve a drastic boost in performance. The (non-Hero) Ultra-Elite and Champion ranks confer the following attribute bonuses to every Figure in the unit. This reduces magical potential to some degree. When creating a new Wizard, the Warlord Retort consumes two picks. Warlords maintain a powerful advantage in straightforward combat throughout the game, and their heroes require less time and combat Experience to become effective. Their units will have +2 Experience Levels over the standard, and can reach the rank of "Champion" (Experience Level 6, two gold pips).Ī Warlord has the benefit of powerful Normal Units, and thus can often rely on producing large armies from his cities - making this a good choice for Wizards who plan to focus on high production and fewer Summoning Spells. Warlords who cast the Crusade spell will enjoy the bonuses from both the spell and the Retort.

This is otherwise only attainable by casting the Crusade spell. This allows them to become more powerful than any similar unit owned by a non- Warlord Wizard. These units may now reach the level of "Ultra Elite" (level 5, one gold pip), which is one level higher than the standard limit for such units. The second ability is an increase to the maximum allowed Experience Level for all Normal Units. Heroes will also receive the +1 Experience Level bonus upon being recruited for the first time (but not on subsequent recruiting). Therefore, Normal Units will be at least at a level of "Regular" (level 2, one silver pip) when created - as opposed to the standard "Recruit" level units. The first ability is an immediate bonus of +1 Experience Level given automatically to any Normal Unit or Hero created by this Wizard. Any Wizard possessing this Retort receives two special abilities that will positively affect him for the duration of the game. Warlord is one of the more powerful Retorts in Master of Magic. At Wizard-creation, this Retort costs two picks. Normal Units may now reach the Experience Level of Ultra Elite. All of the Warlord Wizard's troops (including Heroes but not Fantastic Units) receive a +1 Experience Level bonus upon being recruited. Warlord is one of the 18 different Retorts available for customizing and empowering Wizards in Master of Magic.
